Matsubara City is located in the Minamikawachi region of Osaka Prefecture. Neighboring municipalities include Osaka City, Sakai City, and Yao City. Kawachi Matsubara Station is the central station, and the city is served by the Kintetsu Railway. Local bus services include Kintetsu Bus, Nankai Bus, and Osaka Municipal Bus. Tourist attractions include Shibagaki Shrine, founded in the late 5th century; Nunoshi Shrine, whose main hall is a prefectural designated tangible cultural property; and Tonokura Shrine. Other sites include the Nakayama Residence, Abo Shrine, and Otsukayama Kofun, some of which are registered tangible cultural properties. In 2010, the city's mascot, Macky, was born to promote the city. Macky is a cute girl with a motif of the pine and rose, the city's designated trees and flowers.
