Soja City is the capital of Okayama Prefecture and neighbors Kurashiki City. Its warm climate, typical of the Seto Inland Sea, and little rainfall throughout the year make it a comfortable place to live. The city has a long history, with evidence of human habitation dating back to before the Jomon period. It also flourished as a central location during the Kofun period. Since then, the area has played a major role in the country's development during the Kamakura and Edo periods, so many people visit to learn about its history. In recent years, the revitalization of the industrial area has led to residential development, and the city is now known as a residential and academic town. Soja City continues to grow as a commuter town.
