About Setouchi City
Setouchi City was established in 2004 through the merger of three towns in Okayama Prefecture. Facing the Seto Inland Sea, the city enjoys a thriving coastal fishing industry. Oyster farming is thriving in Mushiage Bay, and the "Okayama Oyster" is known nationwide. Agriculture has also been practiced since ancient times, with rice, Chinese cabbage, cabbage, pumpkins, and mandarin oranges cultivated. Local specialties include Bizen ware, famous sword miso, and the local dish "Dodomese." The city boasts numerous cultural assets, including Kadota Shell Mound Historical Site Park, Tennosha Sword Forest, Tsunoe Shrine, and Jigen-in Temple, all of which are well-known tourist destinations. Other attractions include the Bizen Fukushima Folk Museum, Oku Folk Museum, and the ruins of Fukuoka Castle. The view of the dawn at Mushiage-sakomon Gate has been selected as one of Japan's 100 best sunrises.
