Yakage Town, Oda County, is located in the southwestern part of Okayama Prefecture. In recent years, the town has been promoting itself as a firefly village, bringing fireflies bred in the town to department stores in metropolitan areas such as Tokyo and Osaka to promote the town. Its main industry is agriculture, with crops such as rice, grapes, pears, and figs grown. The town is home to the former Yakage Honjin Ishii Family Residence, a nationally designated Important Cultural Property, and the former Yakage Wakihonjin Takakusa Family Residence, also a nationally designated Important Cultural Property, both of which have become popular tourist spots. Additionally, the three cities and two towns in the Ikasa Prefecture region, including Yakage Town, are unique in that the town is leading an unusual initiative called the Marriage Promotion Project, which aims to create a place for men and women to meet.
