Located in the center of Okayama Prefecture, Kumenan Town in Kume District is 40km from Okayama City. Well-known as a town of senryu (Japanese haiku), it has a deep connection to the monk Honen Shonin and is characterized by its rich culture and natural environment. The town's main industry is agriculture, centered on rice farming, but it also focuses on growing vegetables such as tobacco leaves and shiitake mushrooms. Many events are held throughout the year in the town, such as the Young Bamboo Senryu Competition and the Lotus Flower Festival, and residents cooperate to promote and revitalize the area. A tourist spot is the Goei-do Hall of Tanjoji Temple. The large ginkgo tree within it is 850 years old and has a long history. As an important cultural property of the town, it continues to build its history while being protected by the local residents.
