Bizen City, a region in Okayama Prefecture that was reborn after a merger in 2005, has long been the birthplace of the nationally renowned Bizen ware, and has developed an industry centered on pottery. In recent years, the region has also been focusing on industry and commerce in addition to these fields. In this environment, rice is the main crop grown. The region is also focusing on fig production, broadening its horizons and revitalizing the region. The main tourist spot in this area is Shizutani School. This is the oldest place in Japan where education for the common people was provided, and is the starting point of the school, so to speak. Other attractions include Bizen ware pottery manufacturer Bishu Kiln and Mugenan Bizen ware workshop, and these spots offer experiences that can only be found in this region.
