About Akaiwa City
Akaiwa City was formed in 2005 through the merger of four towns in Okayama Prefecture. The city is blessed with abundant nature, with the Yoshii River flowing through it and Mount Kuma towering above. Fruit cultivation is thriving in this region, with white peaches, Muscat grapes, Pione grapes, and pears cultivated. Korezato wine is a local specialty. Known tourist attractions include the ruins of Bizen Kokubunji Temple, with its seven-story pagoda, Kumayama Shrine at the top of Mount Kumayama, and the Ryoguyama Kofun Tumulus. Shimoichi boasts a cherry blossom-lined street stretching for approximately 1 km, attracting many visitors in the spring. Other notable sights include the 11-meter-high Chiarai Falls, the Fureai Bell, and a giant natural cedar tree. The Kumayama Shrine Spring Festival is held every April, followed by a fireworks display in August.
