About Usuki City
Usuki City is located in the southern part of Oita Prefecture, and is a long, oval-shaped area. To the east lies Usuki Bay, and rugged mountains can be seen in the southwest. The Nozu River flows southwest of the town, surrounded by rice paddies and farmland. The area is warm throughout the year and receives a lot of rain, making it an ideal natural environment for living. One of the main attractions is the Hisaike Storehouse. Built during the Edo period and used as a sake storehouse, it was later closed and Portuguese murals were painted, making it a popular new building. You can get a glimpse of how this 130-year-old building is being put to good use. The autumn foliage in Hakuba Valley is also spectacular.
