Usa City is located in the northern part of Oita Prefecture. It borders five cities and two towns, including Beppu, Nakatsu, and Bungotakada. In the summer, the Minato Festival is held in the Choshu area, the Natsugoshi Festival at Usa Shrine, and the Yosakoi Sochiko Tanabata Festival is held in the Yokkaichi area. In the fall, three festivals, including the Otori Koshi Festival, are held in the Yokkaichi area. Usa City is home to many ancient ruins. The Oita Prefectural Museum of History, located within the grounds of the Usa Fudoki no Oka Historical Park, is a popular tourist attraction. Other attractions include the ruins of Mitsuoka Castle and the birthplace of Futabayama. Usaame (candy) is a local specialty. Iichiko, a barley shochu produced by Sanwa Shurui, is also famous nationwide. The city's tree is the yew, and its flower is the azalea.
