About Kunisaki City
Kunisaki City in Oita Prefecture is located on the eastern side of the Kunisaki Peninsula, facing the Seto Inland Sea. It was formed in 2006 through the merger of four towns, including this one. Kunisaki City boasts a unique culture where gods and Buddhas are intricately intertwined. It is home to Ryogo-ji Temple, a temple that flourished as a training ground for Rokugo Manzan monks from the Heian to Kamakura periods and has long been beloved by local residents. The city is also dotted with numerous other tourist attractions, including Monjusen-ji Temple, known for the proverb "Three heads are better than one," and Imi Betsu-gu Shrine, where the Yin-Yang gods are enshrined and prayed for safe childbirth. Local specialties include wild wakame seaweed harvested from Otokoze, which flows offshore from Kunisaki Bay, and Toppai, a barley shochu.
