Ojiya City in Niigata Prefecture is located in the Chuetsu region, roughly divided into Joetsu, Chuetsu, and Kaetsu. Its residential areas are spread out as a commuter town for Nagaoka City. The Katakai Festival, held every September, features a 4-shaku fireworks display, said to be the largest in the world. As an area experiencing particularly heavy snowfall, the city is covered in deep snow in the winter, but thanks to snow melting pipes and snowplows patrolling the city, you won't feel any congestion on the main streets.
