About Aga Town
Aga Town, Higashikanbara District, Niigata Prefecture, was formed in 2005 through the merger of Tsugawa Town, Kamikawa Village, Mikawa Village, and Kanose Town. The town's name, Aga, comes from the Agano River that flows through the area. Its large area makes it the third largest of Niigata Prefecture's 30 municipalities. Neighboring municipalities include Shibata City, Gosen City, and Sanjo City. The annual fox wedding procession, held on May 3rd, is famous. It recreates the Edo period wedding scene, starting from Sumiyoshi Shrine and featuring 108 people, including the bride. The groom waits at Shiroyama Bridge, and the wedding ceremony and reception take place on a stage set up in the river. Tourist attractions include Tsunokamiyuki Camellia Garden and Kirinzan Park.
