Founded in 1956, Yoshino Town in Yoshino District has a rich history, built up alongside the source of the Yoshino River. Many natural parks are scattered throughout the town, and the cherry blossoms bloom all at once in spring, making it a famous cherry blossom viewing spot. Forestry is the town's main industry, and Yoshino wood has been shipped all over the country. Chopsticks are also made using this wood, and the scent of the wood and the sound of chopsticks breaking attract many repeat customers. Other local specialties of the town include persimmon leaf sushi and Yoshino kudzu. Tourist attractions include the sacred sites and pilgrimage routes in the Kii Mountain Range, which are so precious that they have been registered as a World Heritage Site.
