About Yamatokoriyama City
Yamatokoriyama City was formerly Koriyama Town in Ikoma County, but became a city on January 1, 1954. To avoid sharing the same name as Koriyama City in Fukushima Prefecture, the "Yamato" (Yamato) was added to the name, resulting in the name Yamatokoriyama City. The city is also known for its thriving goldfish farming industry. It is one of the leading goldfish farming areas in Japan, rivaling the Shonai goldfish farming industry in Yamagata Prefecture. As evidenced by the Showa Industrial Park located within the city, manufacturing is also an important industry. Many well-known companies have factories here. Yatadera Temple, a landmark of the city, is so famous for its beautiful hydrangeas that it is also known as the Hydrangea Temple.
