About Asuka Village
Asuka Village, Takaichi District, is located in central Nara Prefecture, bordering Kashihara City, Sakurai City, and Takatori Town, Takaichi District. This area is the birthplace of the centralized Ritsuryo state, and many palaces and historical sites from the Asuka period have been excavated within the village. Due to its historical importance, it is the only municipality in Japan whose entire area is subject to the Ancient Capitals Preservation Act and the Asuka Village Special Measures Act. The village is also working on national efforts to preserve its ruins and landscape. Plans are also underway to register the entire village as a World Heritage Site. Tourism is the village's primary industry, and many visitors flock to its mausoleums, including those of Emperor Mommu and Emperor Kinmei, as well as ancient tombs such as the Ishibutai Tomb, Kitora Tomb, and Takamatsuzuka Tomb.
