Kawanishi Town, Shiki District, is famous for its shell buttons. It boasts the top share in Japan, with a market share of approximately 80%. Shell button production initially began as a side job for farmers, but has now become a local industry representing the town. Shell buttons are still being produced vigorously to meet consumer needs. In addition to shell buttons, Kawanishi Town also produces a brand of green onion called "Yuzaki Nebuka." It has recently been featured on television, in magazines, and other media, increasing its popularity. The main tourist attraction in Kawanishi Town, Shiki District, is Fukiji Temple, which houses important cultural properties such as a wooden seated Shaka Nyorai statue. Shimanoyama Kofun is also popular.
