About Kamimaki Town
Kamimaki Town, Kitakatsuragi District, is located in the northwestern part of Nara Prefecture, in the western part of the Nara Basin. The land is bordered by the Katsuragi River to the west and the Takikawa River, Mameyama, and hills in the center. In ancient times, it was a resort area for members of the imperial court, and the views from Minamikamimaki to Idogashiri are magnificent. It is said that the entire area is full of ancient tombs. Kataoka Castle was built and the town flourished during the Sengoku period. In modern times, the town has flourished with the development of Nishiyamato New Town and the opening of the Nishi-Meihan Expressway, and functions as a commuter town for major cities like Osaka. While the town blends rich nature and history, the construction of hot spring facilities and large commercial facilities has also led to an increase in the number of visitors. The ruins of Kataoka Castle, located within the town, are a popular tourist spot.
