About Gose City
Gose City is located in central Nara Prefecture, bounded by Mount Katsuragi and Mount Kongo to the west and Kaze no Mori Pass to the south. In ancient times, the Gose area was the base of the Katsuragi and Kose clans, who boasted great power as the external authority of the Imperial family, and as such, the city has many interesting ruins and historical sites. The stone coffin engraved with lotus motifs at the Kose clan's Suinin Minami Kofun is famous as the oldest example of the fusion of Buddhist culture and Kofun culture. Other nationally designated historic sites scattered throughout the city include the ruins of Kose Temple, Mount Kongo, mountain temples, and Takamiya Temple Ruins. The town is characterized by the large number of remaining historical sites and buildings, and is visited by many people as a tourist spot.
