About Gojo City
Gojo City is located in the southwestern part of Nara Prefecture and serves as the center of the Minami-Yamato region. In 2005, it incorporated two villages and began a new chapter in its history. It has long played an important role as a transportation hub connecting Yamato Province and Kii Province, and flourished as the center of governance for Minami-Yamato. Even today, Shinmachi Street, which is part of the old Kishu Kaido, remains the center of town, and many houses retaining the original scenery remain. The city's main industries are agriculture, manufacturing, and lumbering, and it is nationally renowned for its persimmons. It also boasts numerous tourist attractions, including historical sites such as Eizan-ji Temple, home to its national treasure octagonal hall and temple bell, as well as Gojo-Shinmachi, an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, Nishiyoshino Onsen, and Miyanotaki Falls.
