Saikai City, part of Nagasaki Prefecture, expanded in size in 2007 through a merger with surrounding municipalities. The area is blessed with a rich natural environment, with natural parks scattered throughout and a beautiful coastline along the coast. Warm temperatures year-round make for comfortable living. Agriculture and fishing are the core industries of this region. Major local specialties include sea cucumbers, wakame seaweed, mandarin oranges, and loquats. The 100 million yen toilet, "Umi no Kaze," was named after the 100 million yen it cost to make. The Water Deck Station is a promenade, offering spectacular views of the sunset.
