About Higashisonogi Town
Higashisonogi Town, Higashisonogi District, is a town facing Omura Bay in the eastern part of Nagasaki Prefecture. It borders Omura City to the south, Kawatana Town to the north, and Saga Prefecture to the east. Rice terraces and terraced fields are cultivated on the town's slopes, and tea, mandarin oranges, loquats, strawberries, and other crops are produced here. Furthermore, the valley boasts scenic spots such as Ryuzu Spring and Tamadare Falls, which attract many tourists. The town once flourished as a post town on the Nagasaki Kaido road. Its main industries are agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, with whaling once being a thriving fishing industry. Since ancient times, many seafood products have been transported here, and whale meat was traded here as a key distribution and transportation hub. Many processed agricultural products, such as yokan (sweet bean jelly) and jam, are also produced here. Recently, the town has been actively attracting businesses.
