Hasami Town, Higashisonogi District, is located almost in the center of Nagasaki Prefecture. It is the only basin in the prefecture without sea and surrounded by greenery. Many traditional landscapes can be seen, including the Onigi Rice Terraces, which were selected as one of Japan's 100 Best Rice Terraces. Famous as the birthplace of Hasami ware, it is popular with the younger generation and has spawned many Hasami ware fans. Many cafes and general stores have been renovated from former pottery factories, and many restaurants using local ingredients have opened, attracting many tourists. The town is also home to the Pottery Museum, where visitors can try pottery making, and where many historical documents are displayed. Hasami ware-related festivals and events, such as the Nakaoyama Cherry Blossom Festival, Hasami Pottery Festival, and Nakaoyama Autumn Pottery Tour, are popular and attract many participants.
