About Ueda City
Ueda City is located in the eastern part of Nagano Prefecture, in the Toshinano region, and is the central city of the Kamiko region. It flourished as a castle town around Ueda Castle, built by the Sanada clan during the Sengoku period. Due to its many cultural heritage sites, it is also known as the Kamakura of Shinshu. The city's main industries are agriculture and manufacturing. Agriculture is dominated by fruit cultivation, such as grapes and apples, and vegetable cultivation, such as Chinese cabbage and cabbage. Industry, formerly focused on sericulture, now primarily focuses on the production of electrical equipment and automobile parts. Major tourist attractions include historical sites related to the Sanada clan, such as Ueda Castle Park, Sanada Honjo Castle, and the Uedahara Battlefield; sericulture-related buildings; Bishamon-do Temple; hot springs, including Bessho Onsen and Kakuma Onsen; and Sugadaira Kogen Ski Resort.
