About Suzaka City
Suzaka City is located in northern Nagano Prefecture, on the east bank of the Chikuma River. It borders the Mikuni Mountains at the prefectural border, and the land is formed by the overlapping alluvial fans created by the Matsukawa and Momokawa rivers. The city is located along an old highway, and is home to apple orchards and vineyards. Formerly a thriving silk-producing town, the city has seen the development of electronics and machinery industries in recent years. It is also known as one of the nation's leading producers of apples and grapes. The city's warehouse-lined streets retain the atmosphere of the days when the silk-reeling industry was thriving. The city's cultural assets include the Japanese serow, a nationally designated special natural monument; the Haccho Yoroizuka and Inoue Clan Castle ruins, prefecturally designated historic sites; and Nobe no Raigo Nembutsu, an intangible folk cultural asset.
