About Kijimadaira Village
Established in 1955, Kijimadaira Village in Shimotakai District is located in the northernmost part of Nagano Prefecture. It borders Iiyama City across the Chikuma River. Located about 40km from Nagano City, it's well-located. Characterized by an inland climate, it's designated as one of the heaviest snowfall areas in Nagano Prefecture. The extreme temperature differences mean that crops suited to this climate are cultivated here. Adonis and zelkova trees are symbols of the area, and in order to combat the current super-aging population, the village is working to help employ young people and encourage them to settle in the village. The village's symbol, Fuuta, is based on the image of an ogre, expressing strength combined with cuteness.
