About Tenryu Village
Tenryu Village, Shimoina District, is a village in Nagano Prefecture, bordering Aichi and Shizuoka prefectures. Approximately 90% of the village's area is forested. It is the warmest region in Nagano Prefecture, where cherry blossoms and plum blossoms bloom early. The village promotes itself as "the village that heralds spring in Shinshu." Local specialties include yubeshi, teizanasu (eggplant), Nakai Samurai tea, and Tenryu buckwheat. Tourist attractions include Tenryu Onsen Okiyome-no-Yu, Okawachi Forest Park, Cape Hagoromo, and Joshin Falls. The earliest-blooming cherry blossoms in Nagano Prefecture are the Kanzakura (cherry blossoms) at Ina-Ozawa Station. Events include the Tenryu Village Shimotsuki Kagura, an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property, held in January; the Tenryu Baika Ekiden in February; and the Okawachi Shikaoi Festival, an Selected Intangible Folk Cultural Property, held in March.
