Located on the border with Gunma Prefecture, Saku City once flourished as a post town and was also a Jinya town. Today, carp farming is thriving, and in addition to conventional farming, carp farming in rice paddies, known as paddy field carp farming, is also practiced, making the city a nationally renowned farming area. Agriculture and vegetable cultivation are also thriving. Saku City is home to many cultural assets, including Ryuunji Temple and Mochizuki-juku on the Nakasendo. It also has three hot springs, which are important tourist attractions for the city. One of the city's most popular events is the Saku Balloon Festival. The impressive sight of hot air balloons taking off into the sky attracts many visitors every year.
