About Nagano City
Nagano City is located in the northern part of Nagano Prefecture and serves as the prefectural capital and core city. In 2005, one town and three villages were incorporated, and in 2010, another town and village were incorporated, marking a new start as the new Nagano City. It has long flourished as a temple town of Zenkoji Temple and remains a bustling tourist destination. It also served as a post town on the Hokkoku Kaido road. The city's climate is typical of the central highlands, but some areas share a Sea of Japan and Pacific coastal climates. Major local products include apples, buckwheat, Kawanakajima white peaches, oyaki, and chili peppers. A popular tourist spot is the Kawanakajima Battlefield, the site of the famous Battle of Kawanakajima.
