Minamimaki Village, Minamisaku District, located in the eastern part of Nagano Prefecture, is an area with a great deal of elevation change, but the land is flat at around 1,200 meters above sea level, so highland vegetables are produced there. Although the temperature is low, below 10 degrees Celsius throughout the year, vegetables that take advantage of this climate and natural environment are among the best-selling in Nagano Prefecture. In addition to highland vegetables, yogurt and Poppo milk are unique brands of this region. Because it is cool in the summer, many people from all over the country use it as a summer resort. In winter, the area is crowded with skiers as snow can be seen. Because it is located at a high altitude, it is also used as a training location for marathons and other events.
