Koumi Town in Minamisaku District, Nagano Prefecture, has the Chikuma River flowing through its center. The JR Koumi Line runs through the town and is used as a major means of transportation. The town has its own mascot, Putitritsa. Putitritsa is a legendary fairy said to be able to grow only in a beautiful natural environment. The mascot was created with the hope that local residents would never forget their love for their hometown. This region values nature so much that its specialties include chili oil garlic and Koumi Yuki-chan Club vegetables, which are grown without pesticides or additives. The town enjoys a laid-back lifestyle while cooperating with local industries.
