Kitaaiki Village, Minamisaku District, Nagano Prefecture, is located in the central east of the prefecture, bordering the towns of Koumi and Sakuho. Founded in 1565, the village celebrates 448 years of history in 2013. The village's designated tree is the tall larch, and its flower is the showy rhododendron, which produces large blossoms. Mount Goza can be seen from the village, and the village is surrounded by abundant greenery. One of the village's tourist attractions is the Kitaaiki Archaeological Museum, which displays artifacts excavated from the village. The Tochihara Rock Shelter Ruins, a Jomon period site, is particularly valuable. This museum allows visitors to learn about the village's history. There are also over 200 shallow caves in the area.
