About Komoro City
Komoro City is located in the eastern part of Nagano Prefecture. Its mountains include Mount Takamine and Mount Kurobayama, and its rivers include the Chikuma River and the Hebihori River. It borders Miyota Town to the east, Tomi City to the west, Saku City to the south, and Gunma Prefecture to the north. Long ago, it flourished as the castle town of the Komoro Domain. After the construction of the Nakasendo, Hokkoku Kaido, and Koshu Kaido highways, the city flourished as a key transportation hub. After several changes of lord, the Makino clan, with a fief of 15,000 koku, led to the active exchange of goods and the development of commerce. Major tourist attractions in the city include Komoro Castle, the Shakespeare Museum of Art, Suimeiro, Takamine Plateau, the former Komoro Honjin (a nationally designated Important Cultural Property), Nishiura Dam, and Otome Lake Park.
