Tateshina Town, Kitasaku District, is home to Mount Tateshina, one of Japan's 100 most famous mountains, Lake Shirakaba, and Lake Megami. Neighboring municipalities include Saku City, Chino City, and Tomi City. The town was established in 1958 when Tateshina Village incorporated the area. The town's central area is narrow, with the town's land area measuring just 56 meters at its narrowest point. Tourist attractions include Shirakaba Highlands, the Tateshina Teddy Bear Museum, home to over 9,000 teddy bears, and Tateshina Ranch. Other popular destinations include Shirakaba 2in1 Ski Resort and Shirakaba Highlands International Ski Resort, popular with skiers in the winter.
