About Hakuba Village
Hakuba Village, Kitaazumi District, Nagano Prefecture, is located in the northwestern part of the prefecture, bordering Otari Village, Nagano City, Toyama Prefecture, and Niigata Prefecture. The village is rich in nature, boasting mountains such as Mt. Hakuba and Mt. Shiratake, rivers such as the Himekawa River, and Happoike Pond. It was formed in 1956 through the merger of two villages. Tourist attractions in the area include a ski resort in winter where locals and tourists from outside the prefecture can enjoy winter sports, Laforet Hakuba Museum of Art, where you can view works by Marc Chagall, and the Hakuba Village Olympic Memorial Hall, which displays materials from the Nagano Olympics. Events include the Salt Road Festival held in spring. The spring water from the source of the Himekawa River in the Oyako Marsh has been selected as one of Japan's 100 famous waters.
