Minami Kiso Town, Kiso District, Nagano Prefecture, is located in the southwestern part of the prefecture, bordering Iida City and Okusa Village. The Kiso River flows through the center of the town, and the area is rich in nature. Over 90% of the town is covered in forest. The area experiences heavy rainfall in the summer and relatively little rain or snow in the winter. Crafts include orchid cypress hats and Minami Kiso lathed woodwork. Local specialties include Kisoji Beer and Kakizore Miso. Tourist attractions include many campsites that make use of the natural environment, as well as Tadachi Falls, which has been selected as one of Japan's 100 best waterfalls. Events include the Nagiso Mitsuba Azalea Festival, held in the spring, when the entire area is covered in pink azaleas. Many locals and visitors from outside the prefecture visit to see these beautiful azaleas.
