About Omi Village
Omi Village, Higashichikuma District, is located in the Chushin region of Nagano Prefecture. Its name comes from the fact that Hijiri, a high-ranking figure in Echigo, trained on Mt. Hijiri. It borders Nagano City, Chikuma City, and the villages of Chikuhoku and Ikusaka in Higashichikuma District. Originally, the village was planned to merge with Honjo Village, Sakakita Village, and Sakai Village to become a town. However, due to financial disparities and naming issues, the village withdrew. The village tree is the magnolia, the village flower is the dogtooth violet, and the village bird is the cuckoo. Tourist attractions include Fukumanji Temple, an Important Cultural Property; Omi Castle Ruins; Hijiri Museum; and Katakuri Lake. Other attractions include Mt. Hijiri, Lake Hijiri, and Hijiri Park. Hijiri Kogen Ski Resort offers skiing and other activities in the winter. It attracts both local residents and tourists from outside the prefecture.
