About Saito City
Saito City, Miyazaki Prefecture, is a city located almost in the center of the prefecture. It once flourished as the ancient capital of Hyuga, and many legendary sites mentioned in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki are still scattered throughout the city. The Saitobaru Kofun Group, a national special historic site with 311 ancient tombs, the largest in Japan, and Tonogori, a national historic site where the Ito Mansion, which once met with the Pope, was built, are popular spots, especially among history buffs. Local specialties include green peppers and shiitake mushrooms, which boast the highest production volume in Japan. Recently, the city has been actively working to create a vibrant Saito, a vibrant Japanese hometown. In recent years, the city has also become famous as a training camp site for baseball and soccer teams.
