About Hinokage Town
Hinokage Town in Nishiusuki District is entirely mountainous. Its peaks include Mount Katamune, Mount Tsurigane, Mount Goyo, and Mount Mayumi. Neighboring municipalities include Nobeoka City, Takachiho Town, and Morotsuka Village. The town was founded in 1951 under the name Hinokage Town, but was renamed Hinokage Town in 1956. Tin mining was once carried out at the Mitate Mine, which closed in 1963. Today, tourism and agriculture are thriving in the town. Forest therapy initiatives are also popular, and walking and nature experiences are also offered. Tourist attractions include the Valley Trolley Road, designated one of Japan's Top 100 Walking Spots, and Ishigaki Village, designated one of Japan's Top 100 Rice Terraces. The town is also home to the British Pavilion, a nationally registered tangible cultural property.
