About Gokase Town
Gokase Town, Nishiusuki District, is located in the northwestern part of Miyazaki Prefecture, in the Kyushu Mountains. The town tends to be at a high altitude throughout, particularly in the southern part, where the elevation exceeds 1,000 meters. Although the town is located in Miyazaki Prefecture, it is much closer to Kumamoto City than Miyazaki City, and some townspeople head to Kumamoto City for weekend shopping and other activities. The town's most famous leisure facility is Gokase Highland Ski Resort, also known as the southernmost ski resort in Japan. Other attractions include Oaso Panorama Village and Gokase Winery. The wild vegetables and yamame trout harvested in the town are local specialties.
