The Oyo River flows through the center of Miyazaki City. It is one of Miyazaki Prefecture's most prominent rivers and is designated a Class A river. Industries include agriculture, fishing, and retail. Agriculture produces a wide variety of crops, including tomatoes and peppers. Tourist attractions include Seagaia, Kuratani Fureai Farm, and Kodomo no Kuni. Local specialties include kamaage udon noodles, chicken nanban, and hiyajiru (cold soup). The city is also famous for hosting training camps for professional baseball teams.
