About Takanabe Town
Takanabe Town, Koyu District, is the smallest town in Miyazaki Prefecture. It borders Nishito City, Kawaminami Town, Niitomi Town, and Kijyo Town. Located in the northern part of the Miyazaki Plain, the town has a generally flat terrain. The Komaru River flows through the center. In addition to pig and broiler livestock farming, tea cultivation is thriving. Takanabe wild oysters are also a specialty. Tourist attractions include Kaguchihama Beach and Takanabe Marsh. Many historical sites are located here, including Maizuru Park, the Mochida Burial Mounds, the Takanabe Domain Chief Retainer's Residence, and the birthplace of Ishii Juji. Festivals include the shrine's summer festival in July, the Takanabe Castle Lantern Festival in November, and the Takanabe Machinaka Genki Market in December. Famous people from the town include singer Miki Imai. Takanabe Town, Koyu District, was also the setting for the NHK drama series Wakaba.
