Shintomi Town, Koyu District, is located in the central part of Miyazaki Prefecture. Neighboring municipalities include Saito City, Miyazaki City, and Takanabe Town. Formed in 1959 by the merger of Nitta Village and Tomita Village, the town is generally flat, with approximately 70% of the land being flat. Early-season rice, bell peppers, cucumbers, and tomatoes are cultivated in the plains. Beef cattle, eggs, and tea are cultivated on the plateau. Tourist attractions include the Yunomiya Zaron Plum Blossoms, the Nyutabaru Burial Mounds, and Tomita Beach, a nesting site for loggerhead turtles. The Zaron Plum Blossom Festival is held in February, the Summer Festival in Hitotsuse in August, the Buckwheat Flower Festival in October, and the Nyutabaru Air Base Air Show in December. The town's tree is the plum, and its flower is the ruby rosa.
