About Hyugashi
Hyuga City, Miyazaki Prefecture, is located in the northeastern part of the prefecture and was formed in 2006 by the merger of the former Hyuga City and Togo Town. Known as the birthplace of the nationally acclaimed poet Bokusui Wakayama, the city is rich in nature, with the beautiful forests of the Hyuga Sea and the Mimikawa River basin. Okuragahama Beach, stretching 4 kilometers from north to south, is known for its high-quality, stable waves that can be enjoyed year-round, attracting surfers from all over the country and hosting an annual professional and amateur surfing tournament. Legend has it that the first emperor, Emperor Jimmu, set sail from the southern part of the city, which has been designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. Specialties of the region include Heibei Vinegar, a citrus fruit characterized by its gentle aroma and tartness.
