About Shiiba Village
Shiiba Village, Higashiusuki District, is located in the northwestern part of Miyazaki Prefecture, in the Kyushu Mountains, and is surrounded by many mountains. Due to these characteristics, even though it is located in southern Kyushu, snowfall is sometimes observed in the winter. It also has neighboring municipalities outside of Miyazaki Prefecture, and borders three municipalities in Kumamoto Prefecture. Its main industries are agriculture and forestry. A notable feature of its agriculture is the continued practice of slash-and-burn agriculture. One of the famous sites is the reservoir lake of the Kami-Shiiba Dam, Hyuga-Shiiba Lake, which has been selected as one of the 100 best reservoir lakes in Japan. Other notable sites include the Nasu Family Residence and Shiiba Itsukushima Shrine. The Shiiba Heike Festival is also famous.
