About Aya Town
Aya Town, Higashimorokata District, was registered as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2012. The town has successfully revitalized under the slogan "Evergreen Forest City, Organic Agriculture Town." It borders Miyazaki City, Kobayashi City, and Kunitomi Town. As the slogan suggests, dyed textiles and glass crafts that utilize the evergreen forest are thriving. Organic agriculture has also produced Aya beef, Aya pork, and Aya chicken, which have become brands. Tourist attractions include the Kyushu Chuo Mountains Quasi-National Park, Aya Castle, Odachi Observatory, and the Odachi Jomon Ruins. Various craft workshops are also available for tours. Festivals include the Cherry Blossom Festival in March, the Evergreen Forest Marathon in October, and the Aya Horse Racing and Aya Craft Festival in November. The town's tree is the evergreen forest, and its flower is the rock azalea.
