Wakuya Town in Miyagi Prefecture's Toda District is famous for being the first place in Japan where gold was discovered. It is part of the Osaki region. The entire area is covered with plains, and until now, the area has been revitalized primarily through rice farming. Recently, spinach cultivation has also become active. The town is also focusing on manufacturing, with major companies having factories here. There are many tourist attractions, including Koganeyama Shrine, the site of gold mining. The area boasts a long history dating back 1,200 years. Other attractions include Shiroyama Park, a famous cherry blossom viewing spot. It is home to 500 cherry trees, and in the spring, it becomes a popular destination for tourists from both within and outside the prefecture.
