Tagajo City is located along the Pacific Ocean and borders Sendai City and Shiogama City. Taga Castle was built here during the Nara and Heian periods, and the city flourished as a central city in the Tohoku region. The Tagajo Castle ruins have been selected as one of the "100 Beautiful Historic Landscapes of Japan." There are many other tourist attractions, including the Tatemae Ruins in front of Tagajo Station, the Kashiwagi Ruins, where many Nara period ruins have been excavated, and the Sanno Ruins, the remains of a castle from the early 10th century. The city's specialty is products made with ancient rice. A variety of ancient rice foods, including sake, sweets, noodles, and porridge, are produced here, and there is also a facility where you can experience ancient rice cultivation. Sendai Port is located on the border between Sendai City and Tagajo City, and the fishing industry is thriving here.
