Shibata Town, Shibata District, located in the southern part of Miyagi Prefecture, is classified as part of the Sennan area, but economically it is included in the Sendai metropolitan area. The town has one of the warmer climates in the prefecture, with temperatures never dropping below freezing even in winter and little snow accumulation. The average summer temperature is a cool 21°C, making it a comfortable environment to live in throughout the year. The town is also characterized by a large population of young people around the age of 20, due to the presence of a university within the town. Funaoka Castle Ruins Park, a well-known tourist spot, has also been selected as one of Japan's 100 best cherry blossom viewing spots. Approximately 1,000 cherry trees are planted within the park, and in spring the beautiful cherry blossoms can be seen, attracting many tourists and local residents.
