About Okawara Town
Ogawara Town in Shibata County has been home to ancient tombs, including keyhole-shaped burial mounds, and has a history of being inhabited since the Jomon period. During the feudal era, it flourished as a post town on the Oshu Kaido road. The Shiroishi River flows through the center of town, and it is a place where people and vehicles flow from various regions. Many stores line the bypass of National Route 4, making it a popular commercial area in southern Miyagi Prefecture, and its population is on the rise. Local specialties include sake, miso, and soy sauce, sold under the brand name Hitome Senbonzakura. Hitome Senbonzakura is the town's symbol, and is lined with a row of approximately 1,000 cherry trees.
