Murata Town, Shibata District, is located in the southern part of Miyagi Prefecture. 70% of the town's terrain is hilly, with the town center lying in a basin. The Arakawa River flows to the east of the city, and the town's scenery resembles that of Kyoto, earning it the nickname "Little Kyoto of Miyagi, Michinoku" and "Town of Storehouses." Agriculture is thriving in the town, with broad beans and corn called "Miki" grown. The Murata Industrial Park is home to 42 companies, including factories for major corporations. Local specialties include local sake and natto, as well as udon noodles and ice cream, which are made from the abundant broad beans. Tourist attractions include Sportsland SUGO and Taniyama Onsen, attracting many tourists.
